Named Multicultural Teacher of the Year by the California Music Educators Association, Anthony “Tony” Atienza founded the prestigious Southern California Show Choir Invitational in 1995. Extensively experienced in the field of musical theater as well, Tony Atienza spent many years as a teacher at the Christian Youth Theater (CYT) in San Diego.
Established in 1980, CYT provides after-school theater arts programs to youth age 4-18 across the nation with a Christian focus. Through its programs, the organization encourages individuals to broaden their theatrical skills while developing their creativity and building character.
CYT offers its youth programs throughout the year, with 10-week sessions hosted each fall, winter, and spring. For each session, participants audition for roles in a Broadway-style musical theater performance or serve in a backstage position.
During the summer, CYT offers camp opportunities ranging from a weekend to two weeks. The summer camps give youth an intensive experience learning to sing and act scenes from a diverse range of kids’ musicals, culminating in a showcase performance for their parents.
